The majority of the bollards on the 1/350 Academy/Minicraft Titanic need to be repositioned in some way. The following information will point out where they need to be moved to.
 

FORECASTLE BOLLARDS

Center Bollards Port and Starboard.

These sit just aft of the center fairleads. See Ken Marschall paintings of the wrecked bow or the photo mosaic in 'Discovery of the Titanic'.

The kit includes extra bollards but does not tell you where to place them.

You will need to either:

  1. Drill holes in the deck of the forecastle where you want these to go
  2. Simply cut off the gluing tabs, sand flat and glue to the deck as required.

Bollards Next to Windlasses.

The model places the bollards next to the windlasses too far aft. They need to be moved forward about 2-3mm. Refer to the October 1987 National Geographic photo mosaic of the Titanic wreck shows their exact placement or Robert Ballard's 'Discovery Of The Titanic' .

Again, you will need to remove the gluing tabs, sand flat, and reposition.


FORWARD WELL DECK BOLLARDS

Forward Pair.

The forward pair are too far aft from the forecastle/well deck bulkhead flanking #2 hatch. Move them 4mm closer to the bow to the outboard corners next to the Hawser holes at the base of the bulkhead. See diagram above.

Again, you will need to remove the gluing tabs, sand flat, and reposition.

Aft Pair.

The aft pair against C deck's forward bulkhead are okay.


AFT WELL DECK BOLLARDS

Forward Pair.

The forward pair at the base of the stairs are way out . They need to be moved 13mm forward toward C deck aft's bulkhead next to the Hawser holes. Measure the 13mm from the bollard's center gluing pin to its new center position.

Again, you will need to remove the gluing tabs, sand flat, and reposition.

Aft Pair.

The aft pair of bollards need to be repositioned 3mm farther aft toward the poop deck's bulwarks next to the Hawser holes.

Again, you will need to remove the gluing tabs, sand flat, and reposition.


POOP DECK BOLLARDS

These appear to be okay as far as the kit goes.

SEGMENT ENDNOTES

The bollards on the forecastle and poop deck had nodules on their tops while the well deck bollards both fore and aft had flat tops. See diagram below.
