CUSTOMIZING
THE CAPSTANS
Most
craft stores sell the sequins in various sizes and colors. Purchase
a bag of gold sequins equal in diameter to the capstans.
After
painting the capstans flat black glue one sequin to the top
of each. After the sequins have set and the capstans are glued
to their appropriate places on the Forecastle and Poop decks,
paint the sequin with 3 coats of Testor's Brass.
The
end result looks more like the brass caps on the capstans seen
in the wreck photos and is worth the effort. The sequins are
also used for other projects elsewhere in the Tutorial.
